Life is the pursuit of ideal, ideal is the indicator of life, lost the roleof the lamp, will lose the courage of efore, only by adhering to thelofty ideals of life, will not be lost in the sea of toy will be theideal of life is divided into a lifetime of ideal, the ideal of a stage, theideal of a year, the ideal of a month, even the ideal of a day, an hour, you hear this, students, do you think of your ideal?
Whose youth is not sad? Whose youth never want to give up? Who's youthwithout setbacks and difficulties? But, I no longer fear, I know there will be akind of positive energy in my side, like hot sunshine warm my heart, take me toa better I, will also become the positive energy of others, do mybest to encourage and warm like I once helpless people.
The flower season of life is the spring of life, it is beautiful, a college student should be in this period, study hard, work hard, find a piece of their own h is the hope of the motherland, the futureof the yone governs his own tomorrow.
One philosopher said, " the dream has gone many ways, wake up or in bed."it vividly tells us a truth: people can't lie in the dream of ideal ,people not only want to have an ideal, but also bold fantasy, but also want towork hard to do, lying in the ideal waiting for a new start, if not only in thedistant future, even have will ents, are you also wandering in thedream of ideal?
Predecessors said well, " aspiring people set long ambition, no ambitionpeople often aspire to", those who have no ambition " ambition", is a dream, isthe so-called " ideal", they put their blueprint structure painted againbeautiful, perfect, also is just a castle in the air, ents, are youa man of long ambition, or often determined? Be a person with positive energy, let oneself have the power to tive energy is a powerful energy, it is bound to include a positivedriving force, only in this way can make your studies, career, quality of life, power is a terrible thing, just like a car without gasoline, rockets without fuel, plants no longer absorb sunlight, you will only chaos toevery day, do the same thing, to this point naturally do what to do, there is nobig goal and 't this terrible enough? Are you willing to silence likea pool of stagnant water standing still, also don't want to more power to meetthe daily sun add energy? Of course you have positive energy, you willnaturally take your steps and be motivated to move to a new starting point.
Youth needs positive energy, positive energy will wings for us tofly to the vast blue sky! Finally, I want to use Liang Qichao's words to endtoday's speech: " young wisdom is the wisdom of the country, the rich is therich, young strong is strong, young progress is the progress of the country, young male in the earth, the male in the earth." let's sprinkle sweat all theway, drink all the way dusty, chew a hard, let youth continue to burn under thered flag; May every young man embrace his ideals and March on the voyage oflife.
As you slowly open your eyes, look around, notice where the light comes into your room; listen carefully, see if there are new sounds you can recognize; feel with your body and spirit, and see if you can sense the freshness in the air. Yes, yes, yes, it’s a new day, it’s a different day, and it’s a bright day! And most importantly, it’s a new beginning for your life, a beginning where you are going to make new decisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented(空前的) level.
In your mind’s eye, you can see clearly the things you want to have, the paces you intend to go, the relationships you desire to develop, and the positions you aspire(励志) to reach.
You can hear your laughter’s of joy and happiness on the day when everything happens as you dream. You can see the smiles on the people around you when the magic moment strikes. You can feel your face is getting red, your heart is beating fast, and your blood is rushing all over your body, to every single corner of your being!
You know all this is real as long as you are confident, passionate and committed!(效忠的) And you are confident, you are passionate, you are committed!
You will no longer fear making new sounds, showing new facial expressions, using your body in new ways, approaching new people, and asking new questions.
You will live every single day of your life with absolute passion, and you will show your passion through the words you speak and the actions you take.
You will focus all your time and effort on the most important goals of your life. You will never succumb(屈服,屈从) to challenges of hardships.
You will never waver(动摇) in your pursuit of excellence. After all, you are the best, and you deserve the best!
As your coach and friend, I can assure you the door to all the best things in the world will open to you, but the key to that door is in your hand. You must do your part. You must faithfully follow the plans you make and take the actions you plan; you must never quit and you must never fear. I know you must do it, you can do it, you will do it, and you will succeed! Now stand firm and tall, make a fist, get excited, and yell it out:
I must do it! I can do it! I will do it! I will succeed! I must do it! I can do it! I will do it! I will succeed!
I must do it! I can do it! I will do it! I will succeed!
Every day of your life, it is important to take the time to “smell the roses” — to appreciate the experiences that lead to happiness. This is part of being truly happy.
Happiness is a state of mind. It starts with accepting where you are, knowing where you are going and planning to enjoy every moment along the way. You know how to be happy, and feel that you have enough time or money or love or whatever you need to achieve your goals. And just feeling that you have enough of everything means that you do indeed have enough.
You have to choose to be happy, and focus upon being happy, in order to be happy. If you instead focus upon knowing that you will be happy if you achieve something, you will never be happy, as you have not learned to “smell the roses”. The irony is that when you are happy, you are inevitably more productive, and far more likely to achieve what everything-seekers are seeking.
We all live in this world. We maybe feel unlucky sometimes. But, as you know,in this world there have been a lot of people who can't talk, walk, speak, listen to and see anything.
The invalid need our concerns. If you see an invalid person, you should notjust watch him all the time. You can show your respect to him. Let him feel thegood of the world.
Our government should put benefits into its policy that can make theinvalid happier. The invalid need our help. Please don't grudge your smile .Youcan keep it on you face.
If we concern more of the invaild, our society will become more and morefriendly.Violence will cease. We'll live safely.
Nature has provided us with many kinds of resources. All most everything we use in our everyday life comes from Nature. The food we eat, the water we drink, the clothes we wear, the concrete and bricks to build our houses, the materials to make bikes we ride, etc, all come originally from Nature.
People have been making use of these natural supplies for thousands of years. With the development of technology and the increase of the population, the amount and range of mate rials taken has increased. It is estimated that this tread will continue in the years to come.
However, natural resouces are not in exhaustible. Some resources are already nearly used up. For example, the end of the world's fuel is already within sight. Such an essential daily item as water is in short supply in many parts of the world. We can no longer thoughtlessly use the many resources provided by. Nature. We must learn to conserve what remains.

The future can be anything we want to make
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked them as areminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything thatwe can imagine, just like a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reapa good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop.If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want it contaminatedby the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all beconcerned about the future because that is where we will spend the reminder ofour lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The futureis before us and dynamic. Everything we do will effect it.
Each day will brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in ourbusinesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of theprogress in every field of human endeavor.

In the pitch-black night, stung by jellyfish, choking on salt water, singing to herself, hallucinating, Diana Nyad just kept on swimming. And thatshow she finally achieved her lifetime goal as an athlete, an extreme 100-mileswim from Cuba to Florida, at age 64. Hear her story.
Its the fifth time Diana Nyad stand on the Cuban shore believing again thatshe’s going to make it all the way across that vast, dangerous wilderness of anocean.
Life is about the journey, but not really the destination. Weve been on ajourney. Lets face it, were all on a one-way street. What are we going to do aswe go forward to have no regrets looking backTeddy Roosevelt quote was floatingaround in her brain over the past years in training. It says, "You go ahead andsit back in your comfortable chair as a critic or an observer, while the braveone gets in the ring, engages, gets bloody and dirty, and fails over and overand over again. Yet he isnt afraid or timid and lives life in a bold way." Whenyou achieve your dreams, its not so much what you get as who you have become inachieving them.
You have a dream and obstacles in front of you as we all do. None of usever get through this life without heartache, without turmoil. Believe inperseverance and have faith. Get back up again when you can get knocked down andyou will find your way.
"I have three messages," said the breathless Nyad. “The first is we shouldnever ever give up. The second is you are never too old to chase your dreams. And the third is that it looks like the most solitary endeavor in the world butit takes a team.”
Hellen Keller said, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is fullalso of the overcoming of it.” People always fail because they stop trying, notbecause they encounter the unbeatable difficulties. "Never, never give up" meansto keep trying and never stop working for your goals. I think it’s a very goodpiece of advice for all of us and this is the most important thing that can helpus to achieve our goals.
I am quite sure that everybody knows Thomas Edison. Why so many peopletried to invent the electric lamp, but only Thomas Edison succeedIf Edison, likemany others, had been stilted by repeated failures, there would be no vibrantmodern cities at night. His success proves that if a person is not scared byseemingly insurmountable adversity, he can find the way to success..
In my opinion, never stop working for your goal doesn’t mean you must besuccessful. It doesnt even mean that you must achieve your goal, but its veryimportant to keep it in your mind. There are enough unfavorable conditions whichmake our lives difficult, but what important for us is to make efforts towardsyour goal or your dream. If you have given your best for your goal or yourdream, whether you succeed or not, at least you wont leave any regret in yourlife.
Dont give up working for your goal or your dream. If you succeed, you willtaste great joy in your life. If you dont succeed, you wont have regret in yourlife because you have given your best.
Dreams are hard to follow, hold on and there will be tomorrow. You willfind the way with the strength to carry on. Don’t give up.

Don’t wait for someday. This is the day, this is the moment, and this isyour opportunity to live.
Let go of any thoughts of limitation. You deserve every joy you can imagineand you’re fully able of creating them all. Stop settling forwhat’s only easy or comfortable or convenient. Give yourself the respect youdeserve and take on the difficult challenges that bring real fulfilment1.
Give your life some beautiful and meaningful substance2 today. Remindyourself of how fortunate you are to have each moment, and sincerely fill thosemoments with richness.
Admit and be thankful for what you desire to experience, to express, togive and to live. Then, fully use the power of your purpose and make it happen. The best of life is never out of reach. It is yours to fulfil, right now.
Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle mywhole life problem at once。 I can do something for twelve hours that wouldappall me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime。
Just for today I will be happy。 This assumes to be true what AbrahamLincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds tobe。"
Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjusteverything to my own desires。 I will take my "luck" as it es。
Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind。 I will study。 I will learnsomething useful。 I will not be a mental loafer。 I will read something thatrequires effort, thought and concentration。
Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways。 I will do somebody agood turn and not get found out: If anybody knows of it, it will not count。 Iwill do at least two things I don't want to do—just for exercise。 I will notshow anyone that my feelings are hurt: they may be hurt, but today I will notshow it。
Just for today I will be agreeable。 I will look as well as I can, dressbeingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit,and try not to improveor regulate anybody but myself。
Just for today I will have a program, I may not follow it exactly, but Iwill have it。 I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision。
Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax。During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of mylife。
Just for today I will be unafraid。 Especially I will not be afraid to enjoywhat is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world willgive to me。
Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”.
I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.
A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago.
Facing this audience on the stage, I have the exciting feeling ofparticipating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more thana mere competition or contest. It is an assembly of some of China's mosttalented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that arepreparing themselves for the coming of a new century.
I'm grateful that I've been given this opportunity, at such a historicmoment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious lookback at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for thisnation as well.
Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, andonly a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root ofa spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past15 years.
In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who workedvery hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.
The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected alot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evadeher so as to get more time to enjoy myself. One day before the final exam, shecame up to me and said, "Could you please explain this to meI want very much todo better this time. " I started explaining, and finished in a hurry.
Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Natsurprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at thebeginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No oneever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldn't forgivemyself. I simply couldn't forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, "Why didn'tyou do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for youWhy didn't youunderstand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have toleave this world in such pain and regret"
I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was thevery starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word"responsibility" and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need andtrust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the veryfoundation of human society.
Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never againdid I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes myheart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power tofulfill my responsibilities as best I can.
As I grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similarones, I began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find thatsociety, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. New buildings, newcommodities and new fashions appear every day.
New ideas, new information, new technologies. People can talk with eachother from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. Society is becomingmore competitive.
Words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and morepeople are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. Such is the era in whichthis generation ,grows and matures.
Such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from ourfathers and learn to run it. Yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.
We learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of peoplelooking on and not assisting. We hear that there are still about 1 millionchildren in this country who can't even afford to go to elementary schools whileenormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxurycars.
We buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many peoplebelieve, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at theexpense of morality and responsibility.
Such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keenersense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think criticallyand act creatively.
Such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clearperception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to takeaction and solve the problems. History has long been preparing these qualitiesin this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to ourpatriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.
Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinarystudent. Probably I'll be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. But thisdoesn't discourage me any, for I know that with my sense of responsibility anddevoted efforts to always strive, for the best, it's going to be a meaningfuland worthwhile life that I will be living.
Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of this nation, which hasachieved greatness that inspired millions of people of my age, most of whom willnot attain fame or prestige and only a few of whom will be remembered byposterity. But that doesn't discourage us any, because we
know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to seewhere this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fiercecompetition.
I can't ever forget that little girl in my class who couldn't had the sameopportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopefulworld tomorrow.
It is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to thechallenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom andpassion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier landfor every one of us.
We are not going to evade that responsibility. We are going to let peopledown. And people, far and near, will hear of us. Frost will be brought to theirbackbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, So letus go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet thenew century in victory and glory.

Today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? It is what everyone is longing for.sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; Making a new friend is success; Even now i am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.
However, as a person's whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, i don’t think so. believe success is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. And the most obvious characteristics of them are money, high position and luxurious life. So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. But the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people's hopes and ideals.
Different people have different ideas about success; Cause people's hopes and ideas vary from one another. But i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. These are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.
What is success? Everyone has his own interpretation as i do. But i am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. So ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!
Wish you all good success!
To us it seems so natural to put up an umbrella to keep the water off Whenit rains. But actually the umbrella wasn't invented as protection against rain. Its first use was a shade against the sun!
Nobody knows who first invented it, hut the umbrella was used in veryancient times. Probably the first to use it were the Chinese, way back in theeleventh century BC.
We know the umbrella was used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a sunshade. And there was duanwenw a strange thing connected with its use: it became asymbol of honor and authority. In the Far East in ancient times, the umbrellawas allowed to be used only by royalty or by those in high office.
In Europe, the Greeks were the first to use the umbrella as a sunshade. Andthe umbrella was in common use in ancient Greece. But it is believed that thefirst persons in Europe to use the umbrella as protection against Romans.
During the middle ages, the use of umbrella practically disappeared Then itappeared again in Italy in the late sixteenth century. And again it was duanwenwconsidered a symbol of power and authority. Byl680, the umbrella appeared inFrance, and later in England.
By the eighteen century, the umbrella was used against rain throughout mostof Europe. Umbrellas have not changed much in style during all this time, thoughthey have become much lighter in weight. It wasn't until the twentieth centurythat women's umbrellas began to he made, in a whole.
we should learn to stick to our life no matter how difficult the life is and we should learn to love others .it is the flim tellsx me .
it is a story talks about a black girl named precious .precious isx fat and not beautiful. her bad temped mother never workx, always cheated others to relieve her ,and atex while watching tv all day.what is worse ,precious was only 16,but she had pregnant for twice .out of assumption ,her child is her farther ''s child .living in this life ,she alawys imagine to avoid facing her life .fortunately, with the help and careneof the teacher and doctor ,her life became not so bad .
precious has a tough life ,and if she gives up her life and does not join the adult education ,she will not meet the teacher and her life may not be changed .when we xfaced with the difficulty x,avoidingx is not a good way for us. it can not solve the problems.what we need to do is that analying the cause and trying to changed our place .so we should be brave and face the trap directly.
the film also teachs us to love others.precious is someone who may exit near us .if precious own a good family and some friends, she may not fell so despaired. in spite of the development of our world ,there still many people suject misfortune.love and help can make them fell better ,so we should not scant our love .
We study in a beautiful school, since the day I came here I have began to love her.
Flowers and trees are the most beautiful things in our school. No matter where you are,you can smell the clean air in our school, when you are tired you also can sit on the chail under the big tree.suddenly you will feel so cool, and at that time you must lose youself in enjoying it.
And there are also many many good teachers in our school, they teach us so carefully in each calss, and when you meet hard problem they won't stop telling until you understand. So we often have good markes in the examnations.
Oh sure the students here are the best, we study hard and live together happily, here you never can see we quarry with each other and hit each other because here is a big warm family.
So many things I will say,but the most important thing is that you come here ,I think you must love our school.Because everyone here loves it!
Life is unfair.
Success is not measured on the days when the sun shines. Success is measured on the dark, stormy, cloudy days.
If you can't absorb failure, you're never gonna meet success. The thing about life is it's not always easy, and you can't always win. Some point of your life, it hits you. It hits you really really hard.
The person you love doesn't love you back, you get fired, you lose a family member. At some point of your life, you're gonna hit rock bottom.
You're paralyzed, you're like, "Why?" And that why can really really destroy you. Once you start asking yourself, "Why me? Why not the others, why me?
I'm actually a good person, I never did something significantly bad, why the hell did it hit me?" Because that's life.
Life is unfair. Success is not measured on the days when the sun shines. Success is measured on the dark, stormy, cloudy days. And if you can't absorb failure, you're never gonna meet success.
I dream of being a doctor.
My mother is a doctor. She always has to work extra hours and comes home late and tired. She has to go to the hospital immediately any time she is needed, no matter how late it is at night. When I was very little and still in primary school, I once asked her why she chose such a boring and hard job. She answered with a smile, “Yes I am sometimes very tired but seeing my patients getting better and better makes me happy from the bottom of my heart.”
As I grow up, I gradually come to understand her words and realize doctors are noble. I made up my mind to be a doctor when I was in junior school and this has never changed since then.
I really hope to see a world where there is no cancer, no Aids, no fatal disease, no one suffering from illness. But this is only a fantasy. What about the reality? There are still many many people who are faced with disastrous disease and suffering from constant pain. There are still many many people living in miserable condition and live miserably. There are still many many people dying of cancer and leaving the beautiful world reluctantly. All those things make me feel sad because I think everyone has the right to live . I want to help the sick and reduce their pain as much as I can. I want to bring a healthy body to the patients and save their lives as many as I can. I want to see people cured ,living happily with their families and friends after my treatment. So I want to be a doctor ,an angel in white.
When I become a doctor, I will cherish each life regardless of the races, sexes, ages, positions and occupations. I will do every bit to cure the incurable.
I already have a dream in my heart,so I have to make every effort to realize it.As a high school student now,I will seize every chance to study hard, arm myself with knowledge, prepare myself for the future and strive for my dreams. I will be determined, face the reality bravely and not surrender to any problems I meet.
Is’s like Gothe says,“The important thing in life is to have a great aim and be determined to attain it.”Being a doctor is my dream. I think it is simple but meanful.

1、Maintain a good attitude of tolerance towards people , the students are friendly to each other, to create a harmonious interpersonal relationships.
2、 We should promote a vibrant style of the team, a real study , the unity displayed a style of class and diligence to make personal style in a good environment. The students forge ahead and to the ideal of hard work. Learning positive, thereby creating a harmonious atmosphere for education.
With the development of society, harmony becomes the theme of this time. Everyone is doing his best to make the surroundings harmonious. As a member of our campus, we should take action in building the harmonious campus.
Here are some suggestions. First, treat people sincerely. We should be ready to help each other when someone is in trouble. Second, behave yourself. Keep our environment clean and take good care of every tree and every flower. Third, try to be polite. When we meet someone we know, a “hello” is good enough. Then, we can gain their respects for us.
Of course, there are still a lot of things we can do to build the harmonious campus. Anyway, doing something good to our campus is our duty. Let’s do it from now on.
When finishing the high school course, not every student has the chance or ability to go to college. some students choose to seek a job, start their own business or pursue other interest. however, for some students who want to get further education, they choose self-education, self-education is no better than university studies.
On the one hand, self-education lacks of a well-defined structure. in the school, the teacher will make some plans for students’ studies; they plan the target, the fulfillment of expectation and assessment of the program. with these, students can know their own flaws, making progress gradually. while self-learners may lose themselves, they have no test, no homework and no exam; it is hard for them to know how to get improved.
On the other hand, self-education doesn’t provide the environment which students can learn from each other. college provides students the stage to communicate with others, making friends; students can also have the chance to enhance the ability of team work and readership. those abilities are very important for students, when they are finding a job, they have the advantages.
Self-education is a way of gaining knowledge; i prefer to study in college, because i like to communicate with friends. though self-education can’t take place for university studies, we can choose to learn elective courses in that way.

"Why are you in college at such a young age?" I asked later。 She jokinglyreplied, " I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple ofchildren, and then retire and travel。"
"No seriously," I asked。 I was curious what may have motivatedher to betaking on this challenge at her age。 "I always dreamed of having a collegeeducation and now I'm getting one!" she told me。
We became instant friends。 Every day for the next three months we wouldleave class together and tolk nonstop。 I was always listening to this "timemachine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me。
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to make a speech to our footballteam。 I'll never forget what she taught us。 As she began to deliverher preparedspeech, she dropped her note card on the floor。 A little embarrassed she simplysaid, "I'm sorry。 This whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back inorder so let me just tell you what I know。" As we laughed she cleared her throatand began:" We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because westop playing。 There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, andachieving success。 You have to laugh and find humor every day。 You've got tohave a dream。 When you lose your dreams, you die。 We have so many people walkingaround who are dead and don't even know it! ility。 The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change。Have no regrets。 The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, butrather for things we did not do。 The only people who fear death are those withregrets。"
At the year's end Rose finished the college degree。 One week aftergraduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep。 Over two thousand college studentsattended her funeral to honorthe wonderful woman who taught by example that it'snever too late to be all you can possibly be。
We, leaving ignorance ushered in our youth. Youth, let us unbridled, relaxed, appreciate the wind that freedom, feel the cloud that comfortable, because youth gives us the peak of life, we do not need to mature, we are nolonger ignorant, we only persistent. Positive energy in youth. Strong energyhelps me to support a firm belief, so that I am full of confidence in achallenging tomorrow.
Life is the pursuit of ideal, ideal is the indicator of life, lost the roleof the lamp, will lose the courage of life. Therefore, only by adhering to thelofty ideals of life, will not be lost in the sea of life. Tolstoy will be theideal of life is divided into a lifetime of ideal, the ideal of a stage, theideal of a year, the ideal of a month, even the ideal of a day, an hour, aminute. When you hear this, students, do you think of your ideal?
Whose youth is not sad? Whose youth never want to give up? Who's youthwithout setbacks and difficulties? But, I no longer fear, I know there will be akind of positive energy in my side, like hot sunshine warm my heart, take me toa better tomorrow. And I, will also become the positive energy of others, do mybest to encourage and warm like I once helpless people.
The flower season of life is the spring of life, it is beautiful, butshort. As a college student should be in this period, study hard, work hard, find a piece of their own sky. Youth is the hope of the motherland, the futureof the nation. Everyone governs his own tomorrow.
One philosopher said, " the dream has gone many ways, wake up or in bed. "it vividly tells us a truth: people can't lie in the dream of ideal life. Yes,people not only want to have an ideal, but also bold fantasy, but also want towork hard to do, lying in the ideal waiting for a new start, if not only in thedistant future, even have will lose. Students, are you also wandering in thedream of ideal?
Predecessors said well, " aspiring people set long ambition, no ambitionpeople often aspire to", those who have no ambition " ambition", is a dream, isthe so-called " ideal", they put their blueprint structure painted againbeautiful, perfect, also is just a castle in the air, mirage. Students, are youa man of long ambition, or often determined? In the green years, whenever I amsad and confused, wandering helpless, there are always some people or things toencourage me, sending out a positive light warm me.
Be a person with positive energy, let oneself have the power to moveforward. Positive energy is a powerful energy, it is bound to include a positivedriving force, only in this way can make your studies, career, quality of life, etc. progress. No power is a terrible thing, just like a car without gasoline, rockets without fuel, plants no longer absorb sunlight, you will only chaos toevery day, do the same thing, to this point naturally do what to do, there is nobig goal and ideal. Isn't this terrible enough? Are you willing to silence likea pool of stagnant water standing still, also don't want to more power to meetthe daily sun add energy? Of course not. when you have positive energy, you willnaturally take your steps and be motivated to move to a new starting point.
Youth needs positive energy, positive energy will insert wings for us tofly to the vast blue sky! Finally, I want to use Liang Qichao's words to endtoday's speech: " young wisdom is the wisdom of the country, the rich is therich, young strong is strong, young progress is the progress of the country, young male in the earth, the male in the earth. " let's sprinkle sweat all theway, drink all the way dusty, chew a hard, let youth continue to burn under thered flag; May every young man embrace his ideals and March on the voyage oflife.
first i want to ask you some questions:
1、 do you know what is youth?
2、 how do you master your youth?
youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .
youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years . we grow old by deserting our ideals.
years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.
thank you!
Time is like a sharp knife。
It can carve hard lines on beautiful faces and wear out youth year afteryear, but using it well can make a piece of simple stone into a great statue。St。 Mary Academy is still a simple piece of white stone briefly carved, but astime marches on,duanwenw,。 it may be spoiled by dust, worn out by weather, orbroken into separate pieces。 It may be also carefully carved by knife intowonderful statues。 Everyone at school, including our schoolmates, controls thisknife。
If I have a chance to live to be an old woman,I shall,in my peacefuldreams, seek the old paths leading through the trees which I used to travel downin my earlier days。 The old bell tower, standing in the golden sunlight, makes aslow,solemn1 sound as girls pour into the church like a stream。 There they willkneel, pray and whisper to their spiritual Lord about the little things in theirlives。 They will ask him to help them in reaching their future goals and I canhear the old church tower whisper in return,“Yes,St。 Mary certainly possessesthe most hard-working girls that shall glorify2 her with their brightfutures!”
What I feel when I hear these words depends on whether I have done anythingmeaningful over the years。 If I have been successful,I will smile with prideand contentment, for I have taken a part, though a very small part,in carvingout, with the knife of time, this wonderful model of school life。
When I was in my 20s, I saw my very first psychotherapy client。 I was a Ph。D。 student in clinical psychology at Berkeley。 She was a 26—year—old woman named Alex。 Now Alex walked into her first session wearing jeans and a big slouchy top, and she dropped onto the couch in my office and kicked off her flats and told me she was there to talk about guy problems。 Now when I heard this, I was so relieved。 My classmate got an arsonist for her first client。 (Laughter) And I got a twentysomething who wanted to talk about boys。 This I thought I could handle。
But I didn't handle it。 With the funny stories that Alex would bring to session, it was easy for me just to nod my head while we kicked the can down the road。 "Thirty's the new 20," Alex would say, and as far as I could tell, she was right。 Work happened later, marriage happened later, kids happened later, even death happened later。 Twentysomethings like Alex and I had nothing but time。
But before long, my supervisor pushed me to push Alex about her love life。 I pushed back。
I said, "Sure, she's dating down, she's sleeping with a knucklehead, but it's not like she's going to marry the guy。"
And then my supervisor said, "Not yet, but she might marry the next one。 Besides, the best time to work on Alex's marriage is before she has one。"
That's what psychologists call an "Aha!" moment。 That was the moment I realized, 30 is not the new 20。 Yes, people settle down later than they used to, but that didn't make Alex's 20s a developmental downtime。 That made Alex's 20s a developmental sweet spot, and we were sitting there blowing it。 That was when I realized that this sort of benign neglect was a real problem, and it had real consequences, not just for Alex and her love life but for the careers and the families and the futures of twentysomethings everywhere。
There are 50 million twentysomethings in the United States right now。 We're talking about 15 percent of the population, or 100 percent if you consider that no one's getting through adulthood without going through their 20s first。
Raise your hand if you're in your 20s。 I really want to see some twentysomethings here。 Oh, yay! Y'all's awesome。 If you work with twentysomethings, you love a twentysomething, you're losing sleep over twentysomethings, I want to see — Okay。 Awesome, twentysomethings really matter。
So I specialize in twentysomethings because I believe that every single one of those 50 million twentysomethings deserves to know what psychologists, sociologists, neurologists and fertility specialists already know: that claiming your 20s is one of the simplest, yet most transformative, things you can do for work, for love, for your happiness, maybe even for the world。
This is not my opinion。 These are the facts。 We know that 80 percent of life's most defining moments take place by age 35。 That means that eight out of 10 of the decisions and experiences and "Aha!" moments that make your life what it is will have happened by your mid—30s。 People who are over 40, don't panic。 This crowd is going to be fine, I think。 We know that the first 10 years of a career has an exponential impact on how much money you're going to earn。 We know that more than half of Americans are married or are living with or dating their future partner by 30。 We know that the brain caps off its second and last growth spurt in your 20s as it rewires itself for adulthood, which means that whatever it is you want to change about yourself, now is the time to change it。 We know that personality changes more during your 20s than at any other time in life, and we know that female fertility peaks at age 28, and things get tricky after age 35。 So your 20s are the time to educate yourself about your body and your options。
So when we think about child development, we all know that the first five years are a critical period for language and attachment in the brain。 It's a time when your ordinary, day—to—day life has an inordinate impact on who you will become。 But what we hear less about is that there's such a thing as adult development, and our 20s are that critical period of adult development。
But this isn't what twentysomethings are hearing。 Newspapers talk about the changing timetable of adulthood。 Researchers call the 20s an extended adolescence。 Journalists coin silly nicknames for twentysomethings like "twixters" and "kidults。" It's true。 As a culture, we have trivialized what is actually the defining decade of adulthood。
Leonard Bernstein said that to achieve great things, you need a plan and not quite enough time。 Isn't that true? So what do you think happens when you pat a twentysomething on the head and you say, "You have 10 extra years to start your life"? Nothing happens。 You have robbed that person of his urgency and ambition, and absolutely nothing happens。
And then every day, smart, interesting twentysomethings like you or like your sons and daughters come into my office and say things like this: "I know my boyfriend's no good for me, but this relationship doesn't count。 I'm just killing time。" Or they say, "Everybody says as long as I get started on a career by the time I'm 30, I'll be fine。"
But then it starts to sound like this: "My 20s are almost over, and I have nothing to show for myself。 I had a better résumé the day after I graduated from college。"
And then it starts to sound like this: "Dating in my 20s was like musical chairs。 Everybody was running around and having fun, but then sometime around 30 it was like the music turned off and everybody started sitting down。 I didn't want to be the only one left standing up, so sometimes I think I married my husband because he was the closest chair to me at 30。"
Where are the twentysomethings here? Do not do that。
Okay, now that sounds a little flip, but make no mistake, the stakes are very high。 When a lot has been pushed to your 30s, there is enormous thirtysomething pressure to jump—start a career, pick a city, partner up, and have two or three kids in a much shorter period of time。 Many of these things are incompatible, and as research is just starting to show, simply harder and more stressful to do all at once in our 30s。
The post—millennial midlife crisis isn't buying a red sports car。 It's realizing you can't have that career you now want。 It's realizing you can't have that child you now want, or you can't give your child a sibling。 Too many thirtysomethings and fortysomethings look at themselves, and at me, sitting across the room, and say about their 20s, "What was I doing? What was I thinking?"
I want to change what twentysomethings are doing and thinking。
Here's a story about how that can go。 It's a story about a woman named Emma。 At 25, Emma came to my office because she was, in her words, having an identity crisis。 She said she thought she might like to work in art or entertainment, but she hadn't decided yet, so she'd spent the last few years waiting tables instead。 Because it was cheaper, she lived with a boyfriend who displayed his temper more than his ambition。 And as hard as her 20s were, her early life had been even harder。 She often cried in our sessions, but then would collect herself by saying, "You can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends。"
Well one day, Emma comes in and she hangs her head in her lap, and she sobbed for most of the hour。 She'd just bought a new address book, and she'd spent the morning filling in her many contacts, but then she'd been left staring at that empty blank that comes after the words "In case of emergency, please call 。。。 。" She was nearly hysterical when she looked at me and said, "Who's going to be there for me if I get in a car wreck? Who's going to take care of me if I have cancer?"
Now in that moment, it took everything I had not to say, "I will。" But what Emma needed wasn't some therapist who really, really cared。 Emma needed a better life, and I knew this was her chance。 I had learned too much since I first worked with Alex to just sit there while Emma's defining decade went parading by。
So over the next weeks and months, I told Emma three things that every twentysomething, male or female, deserves to hear。
First, I told Emma to forget about having an identity crisis and get some identity capital。 By get identity capital, I mean do something that adds value to who you are。 Do something that's an investment in who you might want to be next。 I didn't know the future of Emma's career, and no one knows the future of work, but I do know this: Identity capital begets identity capital。 So now is the time for that cross—country job, that internship, that startup you want to try。 I'm not discounting twentysomething exploration here, but I am discounting exploration that's not supposed to count, which, by the way, is not exploration。 That's procrastination。 I told Emma to explore work and make it count。
Second, I told Emma that the urban tribe is overrated。 Best friends are great for giving rides to the airport, but twentysomethings who huddle together with like—minded peers limit who they know, what they know, how they think, how they speak, and where they work。 That new piece of capital, that new person to date almost always comes from outside the inner circle。 New things come from what are called our weak ties, our friends of friends of friends。 So yes, half of twentysomethings are un— or under—employed。 But half aren't, and weak ties are how you get yourself into that group。 Half of new jobs are never posted, so reaching out to your neighbor's boss is how you get that un—posted job。 It's not cheating。 It's the science of how information spreads。
Last but not least, Emma believed that you can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends。 Now this was true for her growing up, but as a twentysomething, soon Emma would pick her family when she partnered with someone and created a family of her own。 I told Emma the time to start picking your family is now。 Now you may be thinking that 30 is actually a better time to settle down than 20, or even 25, and I agree with you。 But grabbing whoever you're living with or sleeping with when everyone on Facebook starts walking down the aisle is not progress。 The best time to work on your marriage is before you have one, and that means being as intentional with love as you are with work。 Picking your family is about consciously choosing who and what you want rather than just making it work or killing time with whoever happens to be choosing you。
So what happened to Emma? Well, we went through that address book, and she found an old roommate's cousin who worked at an art museum in another state。 That weak tie helped her get a job there。 That job offer gave her the reason to leave that live—in boyfriend。 Now, five years later, she's a special events planner for museums。 She's married to a man she mindfully chose。 She loves her new career, she loves her new family, and she sent me a card that said, "Now the emergency contact blanks don't seem big enough。"
Now Emma's story made that sound easy, but that's what I love about working with twentysomethings。 They are so easy to help。 Twentysomethings are like airplanes just leaving LAX, bound for somewhere west。 Right after takeoff, a slight change in course is the difference between landing in Alaska or Fiji。 Likewise, at 21 or 25 or even 29, one good conversation, one good break, one good TED Talk, can have an enormous effect across years and even generations to come。
So here's an idea worth spreading to every twentysomething you know。 It's as simple as what I learned to say to Alex。 It's what I now have the privilege of saying to twentysomethings like Emma every single day: Thirty is not the new 20, so claim your adulthood, get some identity capital, use your weak ties, pick your family。 Don't be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do。 You're deciding your life right now。 Thank you。
